    R/T Cutting out- now with pics

    Car: 91 spirit rt
    engine: stockish T3
    trans: 568
    Cal: stage 4 from FWD / 3bar

    Symptom: While driving the car hard it will cut out/ seize to accelerate.

    Ok so when im out and about and i get on the car hard in any gear at about any boost level above 10 the car will like hit a wall. it doesnt misfire, pop, or anything like that it just stops boosting/ accelerating. doesnt matter what i do with the throttle pedal for about 2-3 seconds it just wont go. Then it will pick up and go like hell again until i get above 10psi. sometimes it will do it at 10, some at 16, and other times it will pull to 20psi and hold it till i shift.

    Now when i slam the hood after poking around the car will die. Starts right up every time. but sometimes it will die. I had a problem with my injector harness that i fixed but that wasnt the problem. Im not sure where to look. Would the ASD relay have weak contacts causing this?

    please help, this is driving me nuts!

    Any codes?

    Try wiggling the wiring harness while its running.

    Its also possible the computer is faulty, try tapping it while its running.

    No codes. I do the wiggle test everytime this happens and it started happening before i switch comps. I do suspect wiring but im not even sure where to begin looking.

    Sounds almost like it's hitting overboost or something. Maybe the MAP is bad or incorrect?

    I have had similar problems. I'd check for a leak to the MAP sensor, MAP sensor wiring, try swapping comps, try new ASD relay. Or check all of your fusible links. Any codes coming up on the traveler?

    No codes coming up in the traveler. Ill check for a leak to the Map. but its not the map itself as i had a 2 bar and now is a 3 bar. Im bringing it to work today so after work ill put it up on the rack and check some things.

    Stock airbox? Intake hose is collapsing as the turbo pulls vacuum on it, I've been there and so has Kelly...

    No stock intake system loooong gone. 3inch Hard pipe.


    All coupligs tight and not ripped.

    I MAY HAVE FOUND MY PROBLEM!!!

    While checking all vacuum hoses and couplers i noticed that one of my starter solenoid screws was back out. Then another. Then the last one wasnt even there!
    looking at the top of the starter/bellhousing. Notice the phillip head screws backed out?

    From the bottom. you can see that the solenoid was about 1/2 inch away from the starter housing. Its amazing that the car started at all?

    On the bench


    As you can see in the second pic the solenoid was just flopping around ontop of the starter. When I pulled the starter out i noticed that the 12V to the battery wire had had some melting on the insulator. I also noiced where it was hitting the block. So when i was getting on it It was probably arcing onto the block and F-en up all the electronics causing the car to basically shut down.

    So i red locktighted it and put it back in. No cut out after 15 miles tonite. pulls strong and hard with no problems. Ill keep everyone updated if the problem continues but im confident this was the problem.

    Sounds like a reasonable cause. Hope it works out! I'd hate to see the car burn down, good thing you caught it.

    Ive driven the car about 20 miles so far with no problems. Id like to get a few more miles on it before i say "case closed". But I do like this for the fix. I got the car out today so ill put some miles on it and let yall know tonite or tomorrow.

    So i drove 50 miles tonite with mixed hyway and intown with no problems. Ill get in a little more this weekend. Thanks for support!

    Just another example of why we can never say, "It couldn't possibly be XXXX"! It seems like every time I do, that's what it turns out to be. So now, if I catch myself saying that, whatever I just excluded gets checked 1st!! Believe it or not, it has saved me so much time and $$ it's a little funny!

    Glad to hear you found the problem and before an R/T was sacrificed to the "car-BQ gods"!

    So I have 115 miles on it since the "FIX" and no problems whatsoever. Ill be taking to the track friday (if weather permits) for some more harsh testing.

    Went to the track last night. Made 5 problem free runs. (as long as you dont count traction) and i now am convinced that the this is CASE CLOSED!!!!!
