    94 mx6 wont start

A friend is getting ready to sell this car, he power washed the engine bay...not my idea cause ive heard of problems, anyways now his car will not start. Its been over a couple weeks, the dist. cap and rotor are fairly clean, has no spark at all, could it be an ign. module?

its a v6 5 speed, just cranks and cranks.

    any thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Jack

Check for spark at the plugs while cranking. Did the air filter get wet? Guess it wouldn't matter now. I would check all the fuses too and go from there.

Do what i did! I just sold a 93 2.5/5spd mx6 not running for 150$ and sold the cat for $62 and kept the wheels.

For a grand total of $210 and a set of factory 15s

Ok just kidding. if it has no spark i would check first at the cam/crank sensor, whichever or whatever it has, for a/c voltage while cranking, and if so check the same signal going into the distributor.

huh? The coil is built into the distributor on that car iirc, are you talking about putting a v6 gm hei distributor on the end of the mazda head?!

iirc theres no way to change out the coil by itself.

Awesome info there. Never would of thought. My friend had a 93 or 4 MX6 for 3 years and it was the best car he had. Even better than either of the V6 slomaros he had owned. Kinda like the sound of the 2.5 6 too. Not ricey as some. Just out of curiosity what do you think an MX6 like that is worth? My friend and I were pondering a turbo setup at one point.

not really sure this one is for sale, paint is decent, but its rusty on the qts and else where he is asking 1300, will take 1k.....running of course, once its fixed, hopefully the gm ign. mod. will fix it

They're great cars, the motors are strong and they can run low 15s stock. They also handle fairly well.. they were very strong in G-stock scca racing when they were newer.

I just had too many cool projects to ever get around to the mx6 i had, so i turned it into CASH! (late night infomercial voice)

A good friend of mine back in Indiana had the probe variant. He rebuilt the engine and did a 5 speed swap and really liked it. Then he got his hands on a fox body stang. Yeah the guy I knew in Florida had over 200k on his and it still ran good.

The autos were the weak link on those things, they sucked. Like the Ford tempo trans.

thats because probably none of them know much of anything, heh. They'll tell you the only thing that will fix it is a KLZE swap

Happen to check output of the ignition reference sensors yet?

nope, i have no idea how to do that kinda stuff, stupid mazdas lol

I suppose the crank sensor could be bad, which would cause all of this too but i have no idea how to test it, and im getting more responses on here then i am on mx6.com, i haven't heard anything from there its almost like being on some stupid HONDA forum.

    Re: 94 mx6 wont start

I do have to ask if you've checked for spark at a plug wire yet using a used plug? Also check that crank or cam sensor as said. Also is the car a 5 speed? My friends car had some weird issues with his neutral switch, but you said it cranks? It might just be flooded honestly. In which case I'd pull the plugs out and see. Those engines are REALLY easy to flood if something screws up.

    Re: 94 mx6 wont start

yeah we tested for spark with a plug got nothing, the engine cranks, so i wouldn't think its the neutral safety switch which its in neutral and the clutch is in anyways when cranking. Im really lost on what it could be and the specific car forum is no help

    Re: 94 mx6 wont start

Well set your dvom on AC and see if you get anything from the crank sensor. I think its on the bell on those but not for sure. I thought I saw a probe recently at local yard around here if you need a dist. to try. I can prob get it really cheap if you end up needing one.
