front crank shaft seal too big?

Is the front crank seal the supposed to be the same size as the intermediate shaft seal? I bought one( says front cam/crankshaft seal on the box) and it is way to big for my crank seal housing but fits right into the intermediate seal housing. What am I missing here?

No, it isn't. The int shaft seal is the same as the cam seal. The front crank seal is smaller...

I think early cranks have the front crank seal the same size as the cam seal. The common block front crank seal is smaller.

Non common block engines use the same seal for the cam, intermediate, and crank. Common block engines use the same seal for the cam and intermediate shafts only. The crank shaft seal is smaller. Common block crank seals are also the same as the 3.3 and 3.8 cranks seals f.y.i.
