Question Questions on installing Aeroqhip socketless hose!

I have some of the blue hose, 3/8, thanks to a member on here, Guyd-15, I want to use it for my turbo watercooling, sooooooooo, I just dont' feel right not using hose clamps, so do I need a special fitting to use this stuff or is regular barbed fittings ok. I have the barbed GT35 fittings which are fairly aggressive and then some brass fittings for the block side, not as so aggressive.

Aeroquip socketless hose needs the aeroquip socketless fittings. It is a bit different than a regular hose barb fitting

Once you assemble a socketless hose onto the fitting it WONT come off, unless you cut it off. IMO, socketless is the way to go. Easy to assemble, and will hold the same pressure and heat as a braided hose.

    Ok, so I'll use clamps.

I picked up some JIC fittings for the block and thermostat housing, that way I don't have to keep cutting off the hose when I want to remove the turbo or head.

Why not get a socketless hose end with the 37 degree JIC fitting already on it? They are cheap, like 5 bucks.

Yeah, you dont use any hose clamps with the correct fittings.. But if you want to use the hose with the wrong fittings, then you need too.

Re: Questions on installing Aeroqhip socketless hose!

I'm a big believer in using the proper fittings for the hose and vice versa. I just had a conversation about this with someone over the weekend. Granted you are just trying to use it for cooling, but if $20 will stop you from ruining a night, or blowing coolant out of the hose while on a long trip it is worth it.

I can use those use, thanks.

I'll snap pics of the turbo one's later, my camera battery is dead, they look like AQ's barb's.

Re: Questions on installing Aeroqhip socketless hose!

I got the AQ hose ends, used the GT35R coolant barbs-pretty aggressive. Heated up the hose ends using boiling water, a bit of engine oil, slid right on. I then had some electrical shrink wrap so I put that on the ends for insurance.

If you use the right fittings/sizes, you shouldnt need to heat anything up, and deff dont need to use oil. I would put a clamp on that just to be sure, I really would doubt the shrink wrap is doing a damn thing.

I found links, they tried to put the hose on and couldn't. Even AQ says to use oil. Boiling it makes it soft and it then slides on. Also in Cordes link, AQ has a cover to put over so I figure that would be ok, lol.

Thats odd, Ive never had to boil a a Aeroquip hose to get it on. I have always used a soapy water solution to help them slide on.
