    Leather shifter boot Prototype DONE!!

After a few different designs I came up with my prototype of how Im doing a leather shifter boot. This gets rid of the rubber acording looking thing.

First off, here is the stock one for comparison. Its outdating looking, and sits about 3 inches below the revers lockout ring, leaving an awkward space there.

I made a aluminum frame first, and riveted it together. This holds the boot in place and allows it to be installed with the factory nuts that hold on the rubber boot.

The Top 2 inches of the boot are attached with velcro so that the boot can be split at the top and slid over the reverse lock out ring, and most likely the shifter so you dont even have to take it off.

If there is enough interest, I will be making a batch of these. Price should come in around $30-35 plus around $5 if you want it shipped. That may seem high, but there is more work than it looks to put one of these together, and the price of leather is not what you would call cheap.

let me pre-face what I'm about to say with a Wow that looks nice

Have you test fit one over a Mad Dog short throw shifter? His shifters are raised up about 1" or so. I'll see if I can get a pic to show you how high they seat above the console. I want one of these but I'm a little worried it wouldn't fit over the raised shifter.

    Best Regards,

I wasnt even ware that there were STS for these cars. What do you mean it sits 1" above? The entire shifter knuckle at the bottom of the shifter or the shifter knob it actually higher? I made the boot tall enough so that it would not have to slip down to go into reverse, so it should work fine with something 1" taller, it might just slip down a tad when going int reverse.

The fulcrum point of the shifter is raised up about 1 inch. See pic

The the factory accordion rubber boot on my 520 equipped Rampage has to be stretched over the STS shifter. Yours does not pinch in nearly as quick as stock accordion boot so it may fit.

Shift boot looks like it is gray in color. Is black an option? Also, how about a pic with it in the car with the shift knob on?

I'm also wondering if the boot will fall down over time or will the frame that's underneath prevent that from happening?

It is black as black can get. The flash makes it look a little gray. I will get a picture of it on the car this weekend or on monday, when ever I get some time.

Id be willing to test fit one for you. Also though you wouldn't need that velcro part at the top since no reverse lever.

If it uses that same accordian boot as the A555 im sure it would work. Do you have a picture of the underside fo the center console?

I cant speak for other car bodys but the rubber boot in my P body (A523 here) snaps in from the top. ended up making a bracket out of sheet metal and bending everything over on the bottom/inside to grab the console and left flaps sticking up to hook the aftermarket leather boot I have in there now over.
