l-body floor repair using neon metal???

Has anyone tried, or does any one know if, using 1st gen Neon floor boards to repair an L-Body - say 4 door Neon floors to repair an Omni - is even do able? Are they even close in size or shape at all? I know there will be some tweaking needed to make it work if it is possible.

There a re 2 reasons for this thought:
    1) I heard the early neon prototypes were Omni bodied and,
    2) The platform for Neons is "PL" so I'm guessing with the "L" designation that the Neon might have similar dimensions as an Omni

    Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions?

Just weld in flat steel. Neons are not the same. Cutting out floors and cleaning them until they are useable is more of a PITA than its worth.

If you were closer, I have a mint one from a 89 Omni that I won't be using afterall. If you're ever down south, I'll probably still have it for awhile.

Thank you for the offer, but I don't own the car - yet. I've been looking for one up here and I know that the floors are going to be swiss cheese so I was wondering if there was an alternative to welding in some flat steel as Spoolin' recommends..... And I figured if the Neon was close enough, there are tons of them up here cheap.

I'll keep you in mind if I do grab something. Probably be worth the shipping if they're rust free.

use the sides to old computer cases. Thats what I do, that stuff is hella strong. If youre lucky, you can preserve the serial numbers on the stickers. My horizon has windows 2000 preloaded.

Back when we used to get new license plates every year my old man used to use the old ones to fix the rust on his truck. So you could see the progression of rust and figure out the year it was patched from the plate that he put over the hole.

I used a piece from the 98 beetle my sister wrecked. Cut it up and kept the larger pieces like that for patch panels. I think it was just as thick if not thicker then the existing floor pan around it.

I love it, OP asks a long question, and we all post the non-car related items we've cannibalized to fix holes. T-M.com FTW!

+1 on computer cases, get the 1mm thick ones from like a full tower atx, nice and heavy for welding in and they hold the shapes better. Using it to fix the rocker panels.
