Pics (now video) of mexican 2.2 "Formula K" car

I just found this pictures on a mexican forum.

On the late 80s there was a Formula K championship in Mexico city. All the cars used a 2.2 engine. Check them out:

    GREAT PICS!!
I've heard of these but assumed they were mounted transversly with a regular transaxle. Any more info or pics??

    Thanks

I don't know much, just little bits I´ve read. I know their 2.2s had a bigger cam (apparently from Isky), Weber 40 with free use of jets, 12:1 compression and header.

The pics aren't mine but I'll see if the person who posted them has more.

Look at the size of that cam gear, they musta been running a larger crank sprocket.

Looks like a regular size gear to me, it just has the lower TBI valve cover.

one of the bigger driving schools, Skip Barber or Bob Bondurant used to run a 2.2 open wheel car for their school, sorry I can't find any info on it, I do remember talking to the chassis builder about it.

might be a VW/porsche deal. you can get adapters from kennedy engineered products for all kinds of engines including our 2.2L's and 2.4L's and stuff to bolt to the porsche/vw style trans. http://www.kennedyeng.com/vw_por.htm

I used to race at Bob Bondurant, In fact We used to do all the replacement glass on their cars when they were wrecked. I remember the 2.2 cars.

Yeah I guess you're right, it is bigger. Looks like they were running some sort of coil pack or magneto setup, so maybe they used a larger crank gear for use w/ a crank trigger or something. The valve cover looks to be modified too, looks weird near the cam gear, but it clearly has the throttle cable notch in the back end though.
