post #? I do the 50 post per page option. I only looked here after seeing the updated time on JT's site. I didnt remember seeing anything going on recently with thread but I was on a car site fast for half a year that may start again :P

BTW, I thought your old time was on less boost. 4800 rpm LC and a steel flywheel and v6 crank was way too much for my axles this year. I am of the opinion now that aluminum flywheels save axles. I have still never broken a saginaw shaft. Just the splined end shearing off in the trans twice and then 2 more removed and half failed. Only shaft I broke was a junk type axle.

You ever try something a lot closer to 4000 rpms? I never bothered since 4800 still seemed so low compared to what I used to do. I should have started REALLY low 3000-3500 and then kept raising LC until my 60' leveled off.

Start at post 161 and work your way to the painting. That is the last post about the cage until the pictures I just put up.

My best of last year was an 11.67@123 with ~29psi of boost. The 11.35@124 this year was with ~24psi. I wouldn't say I have the best RPM and boost LC combo firgured out yet so I'm still playing with it. I've tried RPMS around 4000 and it was bogging and not building the boost I wanted so I am trying to find the right mix in the higher 4000s to 5000.

Like I mentioned in your thread I really think alot of axle breakage has to do with the launch technique. If you are breaking them after the launch then it may be a power issue ubt if it is at the line then I think it is technique. This conclusion comes from seeing wide range, from low to high, of power people have snapped axles at. I hope to prove that theory by running 10s on stock axles. Maybe I'm wrong but that is what I am running with right now and I'll let you know how it goes.

    Re: 93 2.4l DOHC Shadow

My solid hub definitely helps break them when I let the clutch out too hard. The Megasquirt just makes me more nervous then I used to be so I seem to just dump it even though I was saying in my head "go easy, go easy."
Season over up there? Mine is over since I am 8000 miles from my car :P I just wanted a launch.
I would take a bog over a snap!

Yes, I have never believed HP is braking axles for the majority of us. The momentum of the rotating assembly on large slicks, yup. The track was unprepped on my 11.5 night, prepped well on the launch pad this season and that didn't work out for me. My first megasquirt launch was accidentally 7k and the tires did not even move. The really fast FWD cars here all preload but I can't do that since my e brakes will no longer even exist soon (and have not been connected for 2 years). Mine always were not releasing properly (drums) but I bet you could run deep 10's if you worked on preloading and your brakes work properly. You just need enough brakes that you can get a little friction going on the clutch but not roll through the lights.

If I race next year FWD, it will be on terrible ancient slicks that actually belong to me so I won't have to worry about axles anymore.

    Re: 93 2.4l DOHC Shadow

Friday night was the most craptastic night of racing I have ever had. 12 this, 12 that, 11.9-blah. Almost all were over 120mph. I think my car has been on the forums while I'm not around and it has read JTs thread because it figured it should start having shifting problems. I only got 2 clean passes all night with brutal 60 foots because I was trying so hard to make sure 2nd went in. To end the night I got a 12.0@126. When I got back to the lanes there was a huge cloud of smoke and oil dripping from the tail pipe. My first guess is the turbo seal but we'll see. It was popping all the way through 3rd but I kept in it since I was racing Steve (69viper). When I lifted at the top I heard something go clank-clank-clank until it got shot out or stopped bouncing under the car or something. Either way it looks like my racing season is done since we only have 2 weeks left. 10s next year I guess.

Here is Steve's video of the last run. It was nothing but catch up the whole way. He has a really quick car and it becomes more of a force every time.

    Re: 93 2.4l DOHC Shadow

This is what had me concerned accompanied with an enormous cloud of smoke when I got back to the line up after my last race.

So I dug into the engine. I pulled the plugs and all looked fine. Compression was 172-172-165-168 so that check quite good.

I pulled the intake off the turbo and gave it a wiggle. All felt good there but to be sure I pulled the down pipe off and not a drop of oil. Just some nice orange leaded exhaust.

Then I went and took a look through the cutout and I think I found the culprit. You can see the oil dripping out of the evac to the upper right and the big spray of oil behind it.

I had been popping the dipstick lately which I thought was due to increased RPM but either way there was some pressure building in the crank case. I had just emptied my catch can after SDAC so I figured that was empty but I thought I would try again. Nope, barely a drop.........oh wait......there seems to be a tan slimy worm slowly crawling out of the drain. After some more time it kept coming. To speed things up I plugged the evac line and blew through the VC line. Well it seems I had a bit of sludge piled up and I doubt it was ever all that "empty". Mmmmm......look at the goodness!!

Woot ya woot woot!! Looks like I'll be back at the races one more time this year!!

That would be fun. Maybe we can make something happen next year and take the whole track over with TDs.

I was having issues with 2nd and 4th so I'm going to take a look at the cable and make sure it is OK. Other than that I don't have any ideas that aren't internal. I had this awsome idea the other night of making bronze shift pads so maybe I'll try that out.

Ya, I'm definately not complaining. I sure hope the weather holds for one more try at redemption from a pitiful night of racing.

I'm using the stock nipples with some 5/8" line going to a greddy catch can with the other end going to the EVAC system.

Me too Steve. This weekend looks good but I don't know if I can make Sunday yet or not. I'm afraid to risk it for the 10th. We could have snow by then.

Yeah, check the cable and bushings... I just made a bushing for one of my stockers that finally let go

Just went through this myself. I was doing some high rpm shifting and I couldn't feel 2nd gear. Freaked me out a bit because that's exactly what Reeves said last year when he was having problems.

Above 5000rpm only 2nd would feel kind of mushy, then above 6000 I could hardly feel it at all. If I quick shifted above 6000rpm I felt nothing and it was 50/50 if it went or not. (but no grinding or anything)

I did 1 full pull through the gears a couple weeks ago and that's when I noticed 4th was doing almost the same thing, but 3rd was fine.

Took it apart and the cable is seperated after the heavy part that fastens it to the trans. So 3rd felt fine because it pulls towards, but 2nd and 4th where mush because it pushes and the sleeve that keeps the cable rigid had seperated. So the cable was just bending instead of shifting into gear. (if that made any sense?)
