Those with an L Body Condenser...

could someone with an L body condenser please measure the width and let me know what it is? i'm going to be using that in place of my condenser and was curious how much shorter it is.

    thanks!

Why not get a new custom crossflow condensor? I changed mine out a few years back for $75 plus whatever it cost me to do the custom AC lines.

Pics of that? Not going to put A/C in the car anytime soon, but maybe a future idea for a project.

    I got it here: http://www.ackits.com/c/Parallel/Par...+Aluminum.html

It looks like they are more expensive now...

I will have to measure it to see which one I actually got and I can take some pictures over the weekend.

It is thin and doesn't restrict the airflow nearly as much as the stock one.

You can see it a little in the KC article on compatible water necks....

I may look into some AC. I think with some ducting and a remote oil filter I could move the TII rad back in the omni enough to clear that. I'm getting soft in my old age.

I will take some pictures showing it. The AC lines and connectors are actually thicker than the core...

They also use a much nicer oring connector instead of the lame stock one. I might even have the AC lines that work with it if I didn't toss them as I am changing my setup to run a stratus compressor.

just curious....whats so great about the stratus compressor? smaller and lighter? more efficient? what are you putting it on and what have you had to mod so far to make it work?

I am running a 2.4 engine now so the stratus compressor is what mounts cleanly to the engine.

There isn't anything special about it other than that.

Well here is a picture it is a bad place to try and photograph... You wouldn't even be able to see it from the nose through my intercooler. Lucky for you the radiator is out at the moment!

I do remember measuring it as 14"x18"x.75"

Re: Those with an L Body Condenser...

is there a "rule of thumb" when it comes to size of condensers? I looked at the site that Rich posted and like what they have I just dont want to get a condenser thats so small its not going to be able to cool the car well enough......well, its going on a rampage so maybe that wouldnt be a concern since the area to be cooled is so small?

Re: Those with an L Body Condenser...

So how big does a condenser need to be in order to work efficiently? The reason I ask is, for people like me who will never have something that size in the original place again, could you use something say the size of an oil cooler, the size not the cooler, and remotely mount it with a fan? I mean, if you wanted to add A/C later, could you do that or do you really need to have something that large? I know it's not "large", but given how my car is setup and the size of that thing, it's not going anywhere on my car anytime soon.

Re: Those with an L Body Condenser...

The one I have is 14x18 from top to bottom tank to tank and it works better than stock. Remember that the technology is about 15 years newer. I am sure if you call them they can give an idea of what is required. If you look at most new cars they have something small like this. The big problem is that they are almost always either too tall or too wide to be used with our cars. These are easy to mount and work great.

I think it is probably this one (extra width probably includes the inlets and outlets) which is also the cheapest:

    24-50003 - PF Condenser (14 X 19.5)
    Price: $70.34
    Quantity in Basket: none

You could go wider but this one gives room for the intercooler pipes to sneak by it.
