I was hoping for the video using MPTune but with rob moving on, I'm thinking it's going to be a Longshot

    Re: Tuning Tutorial

I learned how to tune first by opening the calibrations files up and scroll thru and look at everything, then ask questions, then burn a chip to my car to tune. Later on, then I bought my moates ostrich.

    My advise, don't.

I tried it for years and never got it working. Buy a $100 electronic boost controller or use a G-valve.

Are you able to program psi ramp by mph? That is why I was looking to use computer controlled boost.

Not effectively as wheel spin will induce inaccurate readings. You can do like some have done and make a speed sensor for the rear wheels. That can solve that problem.

I like that idea. Any chance someone did a write up on how it's done?

This could be a option I might have to look into. Thanks.

Have you watched the videos on YouTube? There are a few that giv a good starting point for Mptune.

I had a thread on computer controlled boost and I felt like I was making good progress on it before snow started. There are a handful of guys who have taken the time to get it working but it does take some patience

You have to use a mph for each gear that is a few mph over what the fastest speed said gear will do. Or use a rear speed sensor as suggested for finer control.

    Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Info

And I would echo Harry's (tryingbe) advice, I tried computer-controlled boost but it took more time than I had to try to figure it out enough to get it working right. There are other. easier ways to achieve the objective.

Thanks for the info. So did your way end up working out Warren? I would love to be able to add something like this.

    Re: Tuning Tutorial

I had it working once, in my '87 Shelby Z. Never did get it to work in my '89 GTC though, not sure whether because bad solenoids or something with the programming.

    Re: Tuning Tutorial

The rear wheel speed sensor solution worked out great, I wired the output from the proximity sensor into the VSS wiring of the ECU, and it has been a rock-solid solution that has allowed speed-based boost control that ignores wheelspin.

My current boost controller is a three-stage g-valve solution with two solenoids and three valves to give three levels of boost. The boost level solenoids are managed by a custom microcontroller that talks to the ECU to log data and set the boost level based on vehicle speed. It works well, and it is very easy to adjust the boost levels with the grainger valves at the track.

However, I am looking into Electronic Boost Controller options, trying to find one that has enough intelligence to control boost against a target boost level, rather than just a target solenoid pulsewidth, and can handle multiple levels based on Vehicle speed, RPM, or gear.

That's why I agree with Harry, a good aftermarket EBC is probably quicker and easier to install and setup than the ECU boost control, especially for higher boost levels.

I ordered the Prox sensor and cable from Automation Direct:
    Prox Sensor: PFM1-BN-3H - INDUC PROX 12mm NPN 4mm RNG 4-WIRE DC N.O./N.C. M12 Q/D SHIELDED
    Power/Signal Cable: EVT222 - CABLE 5m (16.48ft) M12 Q/D RT-ANG FEMALE 4-POLE PVC IP69K ORG

The NPN prox sensor sends a ground signal out, just like the reed switches in the SDS do when wired correctly.
