A555 grinds 2nd gear
I have a 1985 Turbo Z upgraded to an A555 tranny it has been sitting for a few months and I decided to put it back on the road but the tranny grinds every time I shift into 2nd gear I have not had it apart, the tranny was in the car when I bought it. If anyone has an idea on what to check first it would sure help.
Not sure, but mine would frequently miss second gear, it would take a little fiddling to get it in (yes, that's what she said).
Try to adjust the side to side cable end under the shifter to see if that helps.
The the main linkage bolt that goes through the cable linkage assemly into the shift rod on the transmission.
It will tend to work its way loose, take it out and apply blue thread locker, and reinstall if its loose.
I would check the oil level for starters.
No more grinding into 2nd gear thank you tryingbe and mopar318. A combination of both tips fixed the problem. Learn something new everyday. Thanks again.
Don't forget to check the oil level as well.
Good to see you got it resolved. I was scratching my head for days when I was having the same problem. Like said thought, dont forget to check the oil level. Theres a plug on the end pan on the drivers side.
