I'm having a problem with the digi gauges in my 87 yorker. It only happens if it's about 70 degrees out. If it's between 70 and 80 I can get in, turn the key to on and no problems. But I start the car the gauges turn off while it starts like normal but when I let off the key the gauges barely come back, they're very dim. If it's above 80 degrees they won't come back at all! Now if I turn on at least the parking lights and then adjust the dimmer all the way down then back up they'll come back as long as it's below 80 and everything be fine. If it's above 80 they'll come back for a second then go completely dark and nothing will bring them back.
My 1st thought was the headlight/dimmer switch. So I grabbed a couple from the J-yard and swapped them out, No dice!. I'm at a loss as to why this is happening. Drives me nuts. Be nice to see how much fuel I have. Oh there's 4 main windows in the gauge panel. On the left is a trip computer, left center is oil pressure and battery voltage, in the center right is the speedo, and the right is coolant and fuel level. When this happens the trip computer isn't affected.
Anyone have any ideas/theorys? I have no idea where to go next. I don't really want to have a different cluster in there as this one works except it doesn't light up.
Thanks!
