is it normal for smoke to come out of the oil fill hole when cap is pulled off or is that really bad blow by. there is no smoke coming from the oil dip stick when pulled out.

Its normal to have a little smoke, but to really tell if your rings are bad you need to do a leak down test
I thought so. I did a compression check on the cold motor a couple of weeks ago and thought is was low. I think you get a more accurat reading when the motor is warmed up
yes, its best to do a comp. test after you have warmed the engine up.
your comp. readings should be around 150-160ish or atleast and close to the same psi in each cyl
from what I remember it all cylinders were around 130 to 145 but on cold motor
150 for a new motor, warm, throttle open and disconnect both HEP connectors to disable the fuel and spark.
A leakdown test is a more accurate way to test motor condition and with a turbo motor, its worth it to have one.
You will get some smoke/pressure out of the filler cap but if your having issues blowing out the dipstick, then a leak down test is on order.
