    Anaerobic with gaskets?

My FSM and Haynes manuals both say to use anaerobic sealant for the crankshaft front and rear seal retainers. The lower end gasket set I bought has gaskets for both. I used the gaskets and a light coating of anaerobic on each side. Researching further on the anaerobic, I see it's to be used between two metal surfaces. Should I have used regular RTV, seeing as I used gaskets? Or I am OK with the anaerobic/gasket combination?
    Thanks, Randy

anaerobic is the shizzle! I wouldn't worry about it.

just use the anaerobic sealer and toss those gaskets out... there not needed for the front and rear crank seal retainers. The anaerobic is all you need, just like the factory did,

So, you're saying to remove the retainers, clean off gaskets, and use just anaerobic. I'm thinking that's the proper method also. Wonder why they even make those gaskets if Dodge never used them originally?

My concern is will the anaerobic seal properly with the gaskets in place. Looks like it's made to cure between two bare metal surfaces, don't know that it will cure properly onto the gaskets.

yeah originally there is no gasket there from the factory and those gaskets aren't needed... i donno why they make them, . Just put a thin coat of that anaerobic sealer on those retainers and you will never have to worry about a leak.

I'd take it apart and just use anaerobic.

I've tried to use anerobic in other places and it wouldn't work correctly. It just stayed like goo. As far as I can tell, it has to be between two metal surfaces that are in very close contact.

You are correct. It must be between two machined surfaces in the absence of air.
