    Re: unequal lenght axles

    I hate store bought remans, junk. I have a local rebuilder but due to the cheap sh*t being produced, he can't compete and is getting out of the business.

    The short axle you have has my favourite tranny joints. Nice large housing so it won't deform,

    Re: unequal lenght axles

    I installed the long axle from the LeBaron on the Daytona for now. I will be looking for a pair of later Saginaw axles. Do all later cars have Saginaw axles?

    Here's some pics of the broken axle I got out of the Daytona;

    My glhs did the same thing on the drivers side. I believe it is partially due to the splines being pressed against the joint and an internal flaw of the shaft. Add torque and "snap"!!!

    Re: unequal lenght axles

    Ok so I went to a local JY this morning and found a nice set of axles out of a 1991 Shadow 2.5TBI 5 speed, they look like Saginaws (large tripods). I compared with automatic axles and the 5 speed shafts look bigger. Only thing is the right side is the pressed tube type axle.

    t3rse says the pressed tube axles are weak, moparzrule says he had good luck with them. Anyone else has something to say about those pressed tube axles?

    How much are they? If they are cheap enough just get them, and atleast have an ''emergency spare'' axle laying around if you do find a saginaw later.

    $45 CDN each. They look like Saginaws according to this pic;

    The ones I found are just like the one in the bottom left.

    I also went to another JY, they had some axles out of a '92 Shadow 2.5TBI 5 speed and it is the same axle with pressed tube. Are all later 5 speed TBI like this or am I just not lucky?
