    TIII Rebuild/build-up

Well, I had it on the road for about 1 1/2 weeks before I blew something. It really didn't matter why it was smoking, it needed rebuilt. Of course, you don't just tear things apart and simply put them back together again; at least I don't like to. Sooooo, Cometic HG, ARP head studs, ported top end, heck toss in some powder coating, may as well add a larger turbo. Wait, Chris has some 2.5 16V forged pistons he's practically giving away. Can't put them on stock rods, you know. What the heck. I'll order his TU rods to put them on. Crap, this is getting out of hand quickly.

Anyhow, here's a pic of the "Tranny Buster" turbo I got from Chris, with some powder coating added.

I am going to mate the scroll up to the ported exhaust manifold I have and make sure everything is kosher, then hit it with the titanium high temp coating from Tech Line. It looks close to the cast iron, but doesn't rust.

Here are the powder coated pieces that will be most prominently visible when the hood will be open.

Yes indeed! How much shipped to the NE US? I won't have the $$ for about 2 weeks, unless they're THAT cheap. But yea. I'm interested.

    Re: TIII Rebuild/build-up

Recently I went through the thread on timeslips and marveled at the numerous 10 & 11 second TM there are. I don't know if I will have an 11 second car when done, but it will be extremely fun nevertheless.

Nice Mike, I like the unique colors you're going with. Is this going in a Spirit or Daytona or did you swap it into something?

Here are some shots of the car as it currently sits in the garage.

It shows about 112k on the odometer. The body itsef is reltively rust free, but the undercarriage stuff that bolts on (fuel tank, steel lines, suspension pieces) shows lots of surface rust. Bought it in WV right after Carlisle.

I've ported heads for quite a few other folks, and don't own a specimine for myself. That's about to change.

2 shots of the intake ports. You can see the Powre Lynz better in the second one.

A shot of one of the exhaust port. If you got to see the exhaust ports close and personal you might notice that no 2 look quite the same. I started angling the ports in the direction the exhaust manifold flows right in the head.

    Busy guy,

I honestly can't see how powre linz work in the exhaust side as your causing turbulence which will cause a restriction?

+1 exhaust side should be polished to a mirror finish.

Can't wait to see some more progress Until recently, I felt like I was the only only one with a TIII doing anything..........

    Re: TIII Rebuild/build-up

On the intake side, I ground the Powre Lynz in and left them sharp edged. On the exhaust, I ground them in then sanding-rolled off the high spots to just give the ports a texture. This is a theory I'm testing on my own engine, but is based on information I got from Larry Widmer (www.theoldone.com). He works primarily with Hondas, but leaves the exaust ports coarser than most people leave their intake ports. (His intake ports look almost butchered with an extremely coarse texture.)

Anyways, I'm out of town and got to internet access for the first time in a couple of days. I have a Cometic 0.051" MLS head gasket (I removed plenty of material from the chambers) and ARP head studs.
