I didn't think that was an optional ratio for a 525 trans...
I did some research on 525's a while back. I think the 3.85's came in 5spd vans.
I'd like to propose a really dumb question. What the heck is the difference between 3.85 and 3.87?! I'm noobie-ish-like when it comes to that stuff. How can 2 hundredths of a ratio matter or better, what does it matter?

idk either. I wonder what ratios of 525 came in the Daytona Turbo and Turbo Z (84-86) and then again...did the 3.85's get pur in regular vans, or turbo vans?
I believe the early 2.2 vans had 3.85 525's. My first A525 in my 84 voyager had different gearing than the second A525. The second trans had gearing similar to the A520 3.50 trans in it now.

Well I'm asking for understanding in general as to why Chrysler would produce 2 different transmissions with such similar final gear ratios unless the differences corresponded with the individual gear ratios themselves and made a significant impact. That I guess I could see, but again, my ignorance is my blindness to necessity.
