When I was 18, about two weeks after graduating high school, I decided to take my 86 Turismo Duster out for a drive one Saturday morning. The roads were still a little wet from the soaking rain the day before. Everything was going fine until I tried making a marked 25mph turn at 55mph! The car started sliding, and in my infinite teenage knowledge, I yanked the wheel in the opposite direction. That threw the car across the center line, into a sign post and the drivers side rear wheel clipped a drainage ditch. The ditch threw me back into my own lane, right off the road into a dirt bank. To this day I am still afraid to do any serious cornering even in my 96 WS6.
Nopi race in 04 at St louis.Last qualifying pass.Had the best 60' in the car did everything right and about 120mph The wheel ripped out of my hands and I made a hard right hand turn to the wall about 900ft or so down the track.I let off,it straightened out, back in hard right.Coasted through the traps with a 12.43@116.It scared the living Hell out of me.I was shaking when I got out of the car.Worse part was my coworkers had already headed back to the hotel. If i would have crashed they wouldnt have know until morning. The welded Diff pin had sheered causing a spider gear to lodge in the diff.Ripped the trans out in the pits in the rain with the helpof Joe Demeree and his crew.Got it back together in time for the rain to stop.Ended up with runner-up.
