You could try that, but its very tight in there and you could end up blocking flow.

Sorry to necro this thread, but I'm in the midst of figuring out a new breather system for the Spirit, and I was wondering how the valve cover baffles have been working out for you, Simon. If I'm getting the gist correctly, it looks like you've essentially built a box around the vent fitting, leaving open some holes around the perimeter for excess pressure to escape. I was thinking of doing something similar, but instead of leaving holes around the bottom, I would drill holes on the vertical side of the box (i.e. the bit that's perpendicular to the top of the valve cover).

I am using 1/2" female NPT fittings in the head so that I can use brass hose barbs and rubber hoses for now, moving up to AN fittings and braided lines when/if required. The "box" will probably be able to fit around this just fine, but I am curious what the maximum height the box can be without interfering with the valvetrain. Has to be pretty shallow, it looks like from the pics?

I am actually not using it, with a good engine, I simply used the stock block location, lengthed the hose to the factory seperator box, then to a catch can. Worked great until the ring seal went then I started filling up the can in no time. Without the factory breather, I was emptying the can every couple weeks, with the breather, almost never, but make sure the breather sits higher than the block fitting.

Correct on the valve cover, just made a box at one end and left it slightly open, it did work every well when I used it.

Not sure if thats a good idea. Catch cans also suck in blow by gasses that mix with your oil. Pitting contaminated oil back into the engine is a silly thing even if you run fancy diesel oil like me (somewhat resistant against contaminants )
