GLHS package tray options with roll cage

Anytime I drive the car, the package tray always falls down because it is no longer screwed to the back of the seat. If I do attach it, I cannot fold down the rear seat without removing the package tray first. I have a nice condition tray to cut the holes in so what do you guys suggest? Screw it in place and dont worry about folding down the back seat or just deal with it and try to cut the new one to fit better?

Any chance of using something simple like a couple piece of velcro on the left & right sides to hold it in place?

Do you not have the wooden dowel that acts as a hinge pivot?

    yes.

wasnt your car basically "born" with the aftermarket (not-at Whittier) roll cage? if so, dont hurt that pedigree.

Re: GLHS package tray options with roll cage

My Shadow ES used to do that... I cured it by swedging a short section of fuel line over the end of the pivot pin/stub so it's a little longer and it tightened it right up

Re: GLHS package tray options with roll cage

It was explained to me that it was a dealer installed factory roll cage. I'm trying to keep the appearance as close to stock as possible.

Velcro is a good idea. I might go with that.

JT, I'm not sure what wooden dowels you are talking about. I could be missing them.

There is a dowel that acts as the pivot/hinge and goes in the notch on each side 1/4 trim

I dont see any provision to have those dowels on the package tray.

I like the new rare earth magnets like the ones I got from Ace Hardware or from McMaster Carr. Epoxy one in each corner of the panel and one underneath each corner of the plastic shelves. They are so strong for their size (7/16" to 5/8" diameter) they will probably pull the epoxy off of the panel if you use cheap 5 minute stuff!

Re: GLHS package tray options with roll cage

I cut into a pretty clean package tray today. This one fits a lot better and does not sag in the middle. It does sit a bit to the left though. I ended up using the hooks and lanyards and it seems to work without being screwed to the back of the seat. I was going to install it that way if this didn't work out well. My only issue now is where I cut the board out, I need to tack or glue the carpet down. I don't have anything for that and am looking for ideas.

That looks pretty good. I should get one of those for my omni. It would be nice to have a more discrete option for carrying stuff around back there.

Sure! Heck, I will use it at SDAC to hide my hideous cargo area.
