Rear axle interchange H to J body?

Like a lot of them, my LeBaron has a busted so-called sway bar in the rear axle, the pipe thing. I knew there was an 89 GTC coupe (T1, sorry) out at the wrecker, so I had a look at it today. I thought it should have had the solid bar, but nope, pipe, and busted at the same place mine is. The only other J-body was a 90 Premium coupe and lo and behold, busted off at the same place again.

I did come across a 50K mile 87 Lancer. Hollow tube, but at least it's not broken off. The question is, will it fit?

Oh, so no differences in width (track) between models?

hollow tube rear axles are the same track width, the solid tube rear axles are somewhere between an inch and a half inch wider. I can't remember the exact difference right now.

Well, finally got around to mounting the new axle yesterday. The mounting points were identical, but the track width is about 1/2" narrower on the new axle. Both were tube axles, the difference was in the spindle mounting plates. My old ones were much thicker. I also had to drill a few holes for the brake line support for the rear discs.

So make a plate between the two to widen it if you need it wider.
Or just a good chance to have room for wider tires.

Yeah, that's my plan. I'm not in any real danger of having the tires rub the shocks right now, but I'd still like to widen the stance a bit. It looks a bit odd right now.
