best transmission for drag a520

hi guys i have a question whats the best transmission for drag race

im using a a520 but i have some problems when i shift from first gear to second gear something sounds not good and i have to wait to shift to second gear also when i race at the track i have like no torque and just burn tires ,,,sorry tire because only burns with the conductor side tire and at the track when im waiting in the light every body catch me until a touch second gear thats why i want to get another transmission or what can i do thanks every one i hope every body can help me

Fernando, you have to give us a little time to respond, the weather is nice we are all out side working on or playing with our Turbo Mopars!

If it has issues going into a gear it could be any of the following:

-shifter cables need adjustment
-streched shifter cable
-bent shift fork in trans
-worn shift for pads in trans

For an upgrade, an A555 trans is almost a direct swap into a car that already has an A520 trans

Yes it will. I think the A555 might require one or both of the shifter cables to be swapped too, but that is all.

If your spinning the tires, a 520 is better then a 555 due to the gear ratio. When I blew up the a 555 in my shadow, I swapped in a 520, and the traction did get better. But, sounds like you need a staged boost controller, air shocks, and better tires. If your running low pro's they wont hook as well as a fat sidewall tire. I noticed a big diffrence on the street going from 195/60's to 205/60's.

The gear ratios 1st thru 4th are almost identical between and A520 and A555.

some 520s came with 350 fd where the 555 only has the 385 fd so make a hybrid basically or put a 523 in cause they have a few different ratios to chose from

OK to clarify then, the 3.50fdr A520 has the same 1st thru 4th gears as a 3.85fdr A555 ... gotta do the math on the ratios for each gear.

Second gear

Forth gear
A520---1.04x3.50=3.64
A555---0.94x3.85=3.619

And your 5th gear is wrong for the A520...

Look at the math in my previous post, the ratios for each gear are almost the same except 5th gear!

If you want looooooog gears, put a 3.50:1 in the A555 for this:

A520---3.29x3.50=11.515
A555---3.00x3.85=11.55
A555 with 3.50---3.00x3.50=10.5

Second gear
A520---2.08x3.50=7.28
A555---1.89x3.85=7.2765
A555 with 3.50---1.89x3.50=6.615

Third gear
A520---1.45x3.50=5.075
A555---1.28x3.85=4.928
A555 with 3.50---1.28x3.50=4.48

Forth gear
A520---1.04x3.50=3.64
A555---0.94x3.85=3.619
A555 with 3.50---0.94x3.50=3.29

so if you wanted low gears, swapping a 555 ring and pinion would make for a real low geared tranny... Ill have to remeber that
