Recently purchased new hatch struts after mine would not hold up hatch after one year. The new ones do not even hold up the hatch at all! What gives? Frustrating. Anyone had this happen?

There are different struts for the hatch. One is for the hatch with spoiler and louvers, and the other type is for just a plain hatch. I'm not sure what the part numbers are, but I've been buying the wrong ones for the last 20 years unknowingly. I saw a car that had no louvers, and the stronger struts last fall, and it went up by itself!

I have the spoiler, but no louvers. I know what you are talking about. I would rather get the ones for the louvers, but the parts place did not have them. I would think these should have held up the hatch anyway, strange that they did not.
I always got the ones for the hatch without the louvers, but they held up the hatch even with the louvers on it. I just had to be careful, as the smallest nudge would bring it down.
They should hold it up unless they're just defective.

I ordered the ones for the hatch with the spoiler and louvres from Rock Auto, and on a warm day the hatch will open itself.
