    Fixing up the A543

I finally decided to clean up the 91' IROC Daytona A543:

I'm in the middle of putting new seals in it, so I removed the differential bearing retainer on the drivers side. It came out pretty easy but upon removing the oil seal, I damaged the oil baffle dispite the FSM's advice not to. I also noticed there wasn't a shim in there either. So, now I need a new oil baffle, dealer or junkyard I assume?

I also want to replace the extension housing gaskets and seal too.

Shim is under the bearing race. IDK if the baffle is still available from the dealer or NS1, but it should be an easy find. I find it easier to remove the seals while the retainers are still installed on the trans, then remove the retainer/extension housing.

I just noticed the shim...goood. I'll check at the dealer tomorow on the baffle, if not, I'll have to get the one out of the A523 van at the yard since the tranny is already on the ground.

I removed the retainer and extension housing to take the rear cover off to drain out as much of the old oil as possible, plus to see what the insides look like...and they look pretty darn good:

Tomorow, I'll reinstall the rear cover with some RTV and the extension housings.

The donor car only had 97K on it

That is a dang clean transmission. The 3.50 ratio is going to be nice. Install some diff pin retainers while you have it out, you wont regret it. Part # 04800059AA and like 7 bucks.

I was able to order the oil baffle, extension housing o-ring and diff pin retainers from the dealer, should all be here on monday.

Will black RTV be fine on the rear cover? I noticed it had some other kind of sealer on it when I dissassembled it.

RTV is fine. Cliff Ramsdell used it on my 523 back in the day. And he's the one to know.

Diff savers installed, getting ready to put it back together, but I forgot which way the oil baffle on the drivers side goes:

    Like this..
