My brother had 225/50/16's on his '89 Daytona Shelby with no rubbing issues. They were in 16x7 wheels.

A 24.5 x 8.5x15 slick will also fit without issue if you get a 15" wheel with the right offset.

what kinda track are you talking about here? Drag, autox, road race?

225/50 is a very close match in diameter for 205/55s but 225s WONT fit well on 6" factory rims if you care about handling. They'll fit perfect on 7" as mentioned.

if you are talking about street tires for autox or road race 215/45 is a better choice than 225/50.. it has about the same issue with being a little wide for 6" rim but if you had to pick between the two for a 6" rim id go with the 215/45. It WILL be noticeably shorter than either of the other two sizes, though.

What wheels are on the car and that kinda track will you racing on? Once we know that our advice will get better

Some tires "rollover" on 6 inch rims, some don't, you'll have to have a tire mounted and look. I am running 225/55 Nankang EX500's on mine and they are fine but others have issues with soggy handling.

That can be usefull, however it's best to go to each individual manufacturers site, for not all tires come with the same original tread depth and not all are exactly the same size. Rim width plays a nice role too, as others have mentioned.
