thank you
ok so i have checked the preload in and out and even up and down and its 9 thousanths. my question is since im taking the seal out to replace it should i try shimming it even tighter or should i let it alone?
hello anyone out there
.009" endplay is still within tolorance, so you could just leave it as it is, but it is on the high side. I believe the tolorance is .001" - .010" endplay on the input shaft, but when i rebuild my transmissions i like to put a lil preload on the bearing.. if you can find a .010" to .015" shim to add in there, that would work great, but is really not needed in my opinion.
I would shim it to have zero end play yet so you can still turn your input shaft by hand (it will be a little hard, might need to wear a glove on your hand) when in neutral.

wow someone i see eye to eye with. my scan of a fsm says 0 to 10 so im at nine and have to take it apart to put in a new seal anyways so it seems simple enough to measure the shim i have and do the math to get a new spacer
and like you said the play is not going to get better
