Any interest in benchtop SMEC/SBEC reader/flasher?

I'm building a benchtop reader/flasher for SMEC's (and another one for SBEC's). I'm doing it as a one-off right now just for myself. But, is anyone else interested in such a device? So far, I've spent about $50 in parts for each one. And, that doesn't include the 60-way connector I salvaged. Considering my time to assemble them, I'd probably have to sell them for $75-100.

What this will allow is for you to read the cal off of any SMEC (or SBEC if you prefer) and to flash a cal to suitably modified SMEC/SBEC - using a PC or laptop serial port. Without having to pull the chip.

Unfortunately, the SMEC and SBEC use slightly different methods to get the CPU into bootstrap mode. Plus, the 60-way pinouts are different. So, I can't build a single module to do both.

Or, would you rather DIY-it with some instructions and schematic?

I'll draw up some schematics once I get my SBEC version hammered out. SMEC version works now...

Hmmmm This sounds very interesting. Is it kinda like a tune drive tweek then drive set up or maybe even a tune on the fly set up?

What are the mods that are required on the SBEC/SMEC? I'm just wondering if there would be an advantage to going this route vs a Ostrich, at least as far as tuning is conserned. Otherwise I'm a sucker for a new toy.

Well, I'll be building/selling flashable SMEC's and SBEC's. You won't need to do anything to it after I'm done. The advantage is, it's permanent and sealed. Where the ostrich is realy only meant for tuning, then you burn a chip when you get it where you want it. But, the flashable SMEC/SBEC is slower, and you can't tune "on the fly" like with the Ostrich. You have to make changes in D-Cal, the flash the ECU with the engine off.

As soon as I can get my module tested (and working) on a SBEC, I'll put up a post for a group buy...
