I'm building a benchtop reader/flasher for SMEC's (and another one for SBEC's). I'm doing it as a one-off right now just for myself. But, is anyone else interested in such a device? So far, I've spent about $50 in parts for each one. And, that doesn't include the 60-way connector I salvaged. Considering my time to assemble them, I'd probably have to sell them for $75-100.
What this will allow is for you to read the cal off of any SMEC (or SBEC if you prefer) and to flash a cal to suitably modified SMEC/SBEC - using a PC or laptop serial port. Without having to pull the chip.
Unfortunately, the SMEC and SBEC use slightly different methods to get the CPU into bootstrap mode. Plus, the 60-way pinouts are different. So, I can't build a single module to do both.
Or, would you rather DIY-it with some instructions and schematic?
