    Hood Won't Pop Open

on an 86 Shelby charger, how do you access the latch to pop the hood?
I was pulling the car out of storage today and went to pop the hood and the cable had a lot of slack. I looked underneath but I can't figure out how to access the mechanism....Any ideas?

If it feels like teh cable is still connected, just stretched, you can try to pull on it where the lever is under the dash. If not, put the front end up on jackstands and look straight up from enderneath where the latch is and you should see the cable and where it goes. Should be able to reach up and push the lever by hand or with a small pry bar, just dont pry against any plastic or thin sheetmetal!

Look for the cable and the lever it is attached to... push the lever in the direction the cable is coming from

You can see the bracket in this pic. Take a screwdriver from underneath and put in the slot.

    easier said then done!! LOL

I snapped my hood cable just b4 i went to tech the car last year at the track....it was a BBBIIIIIIIATCH!!!!

I had jacked the car up decent high, and removed all the push clips that hold the bottom flap on the air dam. you gotta get your arm up in there with the screw driver, and put it in between the upper rad cradle, and the lever arm that swings to unlatch the hood. once u get it in there, pull the screwdriver to the passenger side of the car.

take whatever line that was broke and then tie it to the lever, and zip tie it on there, so that at least u got something to pop the hood for now until u find a new cable.

i got lucky n got one from a local J yard...altho I dont think ill ever see another 2 dr L body in there again

We finally got it later this afternoon, the cable had popped off at the latch itself, its fixed now shouldn't do it again.

Started it for the first time in 5 months
