After my trip to the track this past weekend it appears I need to invest in some new shifter cables (520/555 hybrid in GLHT).
Autozone lists new cables being available, so are they worth a darn? if not other options????????

I had a set in my Laser with a 555 in it. Never had a problem until I pulled the engine/trans out and one of them got caught and kinked.
I bought one from Napa (same dorman HELP brand) and it was garbage. End guide wasnt crimped properly so it would fall out and bind up.
That was for a 523/568 style cable. maybe I just got the defective one though.
Mopar ones are NS1 ?
They were still available about a year ago when I bought both cables for my 91 Daytona Shelby from the dealer. They are kind of on the expensive side though, (in Canada anyways), one was about $140 and the other was about $160.

autozone cable pure junk
first one lasted 1400 miles then it dropped down to 500 on the replacement ones.
tossed in a set of 15 year old factory cables from the junkyard and I have yet to have a problem 6 years later.
They are not made as well as the factory, but will work, if extra care is taken when installed. I have went through a couple, in past cars(advanced auto, and napa) The ends will pop out from the cable sleeves easily. Once they do that they will not stay in for long. When I installed them, and had them last, I taped the ends, and once installed renforced the union with vacuum hose and clamps.

Mine are all good so far. Got them from autozone for a 87 shelbyZ. I use them in my 86 GLHS.

that was on a daily driver that was bone stock,
I'm willing to bet you get one track outing out of them before they snap
