    Timing belt issue...

I bought the hybrid timing belt from FWD and it does not fit. I measured it about 50 inches and it seems like about 51 inches would do it. Does anyone have any suggestions or any other belts that work? The belt they sent me was a NAPA belt part#250249

    Thanks.

    Re: Timing belt issue...

I would normally say, call whoever you got the part from, but FWDP knows their parts and does not stock too many off brand parts? In this case, I'll ask if you tried to install it by taking the tensioner completely off first? I'm not familar with hybrids but i know some timing belts need to have the tensioner completely off to be assembled...

What idler pulley are you using?

You may have to use the older "tall deck" 2.5 idler pulley.

I have the same belt, and I am using a tall deck tensioner. I had to take the tensioner clean off to get the belt on,and the tall deck tensioner seems to be at its limit for adjustment. I may have to put an idler on my belt to keep it tensioned if the belt stretches any.

Ok. I'm not sure about the idler pulley. But where can I get a tall deck tensioner?

Ok but the belt is going through where the bolts are for the motor mount. Will this solve this problem?

    Re: Timing belt issue...

    You have the correct belt.

Put tentioner on after belt is in place, slack out of front.

There is actualy a few stock holes that could be used,
one even uses the larger standard tentioner. The smaller
tall block tentioner fits like a glove.

Belt thru motor mount? Im unclear???

Well I think I have got this figured out. I ordered a 2.5 tensioner last night and should be in tomorrow.

The belt was touching the stud that holds the motor mount.

I remember having to grind down the head of on motor mount bolt because the belt went right over it.

    Cool Re: Timing belt issue...

I've done the conversion. You need the tall block tensioner AND you have to drill and tap a new bolt hole about 3/4" closer to the side of the block (it will go into the water jacket; don't worry). Then it all works. I discussed all this with Cindy at FWDP and she showed me a picture.

    Re: Timing belt issue...

I wouldnt confuse the subject to say you "have to drill" a new hole.
you dont but it is an easy option. There are for sure two differnt holes
that will accept the smaller TB tentioner, one requires the upper motor
mount be clearanced the other (I think stock location) requires the belt
be mounted first then the tentioner mounted.

The other bolt on choice is the longer DOHC Nissan option with an idler
added to the head, dont see the discusion here I'll post a pic tonight.
