Can I use the stock 2 bar sensor with 3 bar cal?

I'm going to get a 3 bar custom cal and I won't have the money right away for the 3 bar sensor and I'll need my car running for work. Can I use the 2 bar sensor temporarily as long as I don't boost past 14.7 pounds?

No. When you are at 14 psi running a 2-bar, you are sending about the limit of 5v to the computer. A 3-bar cal will 'see' the 5v as representing 28 psi and will provide fuel accordingly.

Thus, you will be severely rich to the point of causing damage.

Now, if it is a 3-bar, +40% cal and you tried a stock MAP and stock injectors, keeping the boost around 7 ish, it may actually run. Will it run right? Probably not.

i certainly wouldnt boost that high with the 2 bar map. i did this a few years ago and it works, but not well enough to reccomend doing it. i would have to double check on the other site, but i ended up cracking some pistons.
the fueling isnt safe, and the timing isnt ideal either.
EDIT, i actually did it the other way around, stock cal and 3-bar. and cracked them.
    Sorry.

Stick with 2 bar map and 2 bar cal.

Unless you like buying new engine.

I guess I'll just have to wait until I can use a 3 bar sensor with the 3 bar cal then. Thanks for the clarification!

You can run a 3bar cal and +40 injectors with a stock computer, been there, done that. Its a tad lean so just watch your guages.

Hi, I've been there and done it and strongly suggest, DON'T DO IT. Wait until you got the bucks for the 3 bar MAP and put it in together. IF you can't wait then stay out of boost entirely.

I mean seriously, if you are short for the 3 bar map you are even shorter for engine- and/or heat cracked turbo/manifold/swing valve rebuild....
