Before I forget, The 92+ SBECII's will work with the 87C257. I've done this to several before I got to the point of flashing the Toshiba EEprom. You don't use the 4 extra pins is all, which the spots are actually there on the SBECI also if you look carefully...

Thanks for the confirmation. I thought that was the case. But, I didn't want to hack into a 92 T3 computer without a way to put a chip back in it.

    How'd you flash the Toshiba?

    Re: SBEC Chip Converter

I tested Chris' latch today with the Ostrich and it works. He did a real nice job with this piece and im sure buyers will be impressed if they bought one. For someone looking to get into burning their own chips for an SBEC, this is a MUST have.....no need to buy a UV eraser. Also, this is necessary for running the Ostrich on an SBEC. GREAT idea, Quantum!

Note: The first two pics are of the earlier version of the latch. The second two are of the newer style that allow interchangeability between chips (Chris correct me if im wrong on that).

    Re: SBEC Chip Converter

if you read through the thread, those are obsolete too.

you can still get the UV erase eproms but they are like 3.00$ a chip.

Really if someone already has a UV eraser and UV EPROM's they probably wouldn't want this unless they want to go to an Ostrich. Also someone just getting into cal work can still find some of the EEPROMS on ebay and get this for less than a UV eraser.

There has to be another supplier of those? Whorse is checking into it, he works for a company that has access to that kind of stuff.

the flash chips offered convenience. if i had a sbec, id use your adapter and the flash chips over the original chip.

    Re: SBEC Chip Converter

    Digging up an old thread!
I am in the process of trying to program the newer 27SF512 (newer replacement for the 27C256) for use in an SBECII. I have one of the newer latch adapters that is smaller, but is the same component wise as Quantum's device.

Anyone successfully used the 27C257 with the SBECII? What do I need to do to get a 27C256 with latch adapter to work with the SBECII?
