Whorse has an 88 L body and the computer is toast, we have tons of turbo SMECS. If we swap chips, will it work??????

it should i wouldn't see why not. same wiring except it won't use a few.
Nope. A TBI SMEC doesn't have the same injector circuits as a turbo SMEC
You would probably have to convert the engine to MPFI and run a modified turbo calibration but that would be a pain.
Crap,

does it really have "different" drivers or just more of them.
i think rob stripped a few boards. he might have a more in depth suggestion.

If you look at the pinouts between the TBI SMEC and turbo SMEC you can see the TBI only has 1 driver output whereas the turbo has 2
--> http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/ecu/index.html
but what i was saying was that you might be able to use the turbo SMEC for tbi car cause the tbi rom wont cause the mcu to look for the extra drivers and will just use one of them. you might be able to do it.
look at the pinouts for the SMEC and TBI ecu's. if they are the same other than the turbo having an extra driver that the TBI ecu doesnt even connect to, then you should be able to use it.

From all I just learned from a current TBI to turbo conversion I would say there are too many differences for it to work!

I would really love to learn how to fix these things, just like I learned how to socket them. I'm sure it's a matter of replace an IC or something. This would be fun to do. Right now I how a SMEC that doesn't put out:confused codes but runs the car like normal.
Sorry this is OT:
As long as you keep socketing logic boards I don't mind...
Reading this I had to lough, are you aware that 100% of all socketed SMECs in Spain are done by yourself? Yesterday started the third car although with issues but Fran got it running!
On this occasion I should mention that @Shelgame has the monopoly of code base in Spain
