    Gray Shift Fork Pads

Has anyone found a replacement for the gray fork pads used on the 1 / 2 shift fork on a 555? How can I inspect the pads for wear ( the trans is disassembled ). The pads dont look too bad, they just seem to have a few light scratches, but there are a few metal particles stuck in the pads. The pads feel pretty smooth. I did notice the black pads are almost the same except the 1 / 2 fork is just a hair wider so the black ones wont fit. Otherwise they are the same. It would be nice to have a replacement. Any info would be appreceiated.

If they are all in one piece, they should be OK. You can't get most of them anymore anyway.

    Re: Gray Shift Fork Pads

Since I have an extra set of black pads has anyone ever tried removing a little material from the fork and using the black pads for 1 / 2? It wouldnt take much material to make the black pads fit and from what I can see using my eye not any tools, the gray and black pads are the same excepr for the thickness of the pads. My concern is how critical is it that the pad are in the exact same spot. I am asking because if I was to try to remove equal amounts of metal from both sides of the fork where the pads fit and I can get the pads to fit should this be ok?

after another look at the pads, using some jewlers files and a nail file you can probabily remove enough material from the black pads to make them fit. Anyone ever try this?
