    Axle Choice

Which of the four axle types is the strongest. I think I'm going to buy one from autozone and hope for the best car will make ~300ft/lbs. Everything I have read points to the Saginaw design that true? Oh and its a almost 3000lb G-body

    Thanks, Chris

    Re: Axle Choice

The new ones made by GSP have large spline shafts and joints and seem to be of decent quality even though they are made in China, but they have thicker materials all around probably to make up for quality of materials, so if you can't find a SSG reman, the GSP should be good enough.

Trouble is, you never know what your getting in the box, its potluck and alot of bad inner joints as they simply clean and throw on a new boot. Some get a new outer joint, some don't.

The jury is out on the new chinese ones as no one has torture tested them yet and we already had a big discussion on them. Give them a try for us,

The end that goes in to the quaife but try it first before you cut, it might be ok.

    Re: Axle Choice

The remans in the red box at advance all get new joints. Ask me how I know.

The Chinese ones are beefy and have hardened races and tripods, but the cups aren't hardened.

Interesting. Did you have one tested? So if the cups aren't hardened, that would seem to me they are going to wear out in short time!

    Re: Axle Choice

The cup IS hardened (I was wrong, just checked), as you can see the temper line, but the inner part is not. Reason I remember them not being hardened is that I boogered up part of it taking it apart. Easy way to test, if a file boogers it, it isn't hardened. I don't think the older ones are hardened all the way through either. I'll see in a little bit, I have a ton of axles in pieces laying around.

    thread about GSP?

Saginaws are pretty easy to find though. There are lots of 3.3 vehicles! (easiest place to find them)

What axles are the big hp guys using?
    Like Brian Slowe or Reeves?
    Drive shaft shop?
Stock axles are not holding up for me. After five runs they snap.
I would love to hear what is out there and whats being used.
    Thanks. Ryan.

Slowe's running the DSS, Hoagie's hitting them pretty had 1.72 60' in a full weight charger
I was running the Relentless Severe Duty axles till 2 years ago both broke
Now they are just remans from my supplier (1.62-1.65 60' welded diff but preloaded with the auto)
Reeves has a post somewhere on here (Stan Cannon Axles) looked to be doing him good till last year but he's on a stick also

    Where are they snapping?
How's the motor centered, how's the motor mounts and control arm bushings?

All the mounts are poly. The mounts are aligned per factory. They broke in the joint itself (inside the boot). I think some of these reman. axles are using junk steel.I want to try a set of originals. I have a friend at a junkyard. What axles should I look for? 3.3 dynasty, van,3.0 acclaim?
