Re: Replaced window scrapers on my C/S today

I thought I'd add some pictures of how my fix went. I pulled the first window all the way out and f'ed up the tint. I dropped the other window in the door and didn't f up the tint. That the felt has chrome on it isn't bad because the door padding has a matching chrome strip on the inside. I think it is the only place on the car with chrome. So adding a matching chrome strip on the outside of the window actually adds some symmetry. Here's the pictures:

    Before driver side:

    Before pass. side:

Old and new bottom and top. The old one is thicker for sure. The new is already cut to fit:

    Installed:

I'm glad I found this post because it encouraged me to do this. Now there is one less chance of scratching yourself on my car. It'll make cruising around with the tops off and the windows down a little more fun.

Congrats! Wasn't that hard, was it? Now you can rest at night knowing water and junk isn't getting in your doors from there and slowing eating them away.

Wow...that is nice! I wonder how it compares to using the Camaro ones? I may have to look in to doing this very soon...it would make my car look SO much nicer!

The Camaro ones were around $70 bucks each for $140 total. Plus, you still have to cut them to fit like these. I got these for $50 shipped. I've got a number of other things I can do with the $90 I saved.

As for quality, I don't see any problem with these parts. Its a one-piece rubber design wrapped around a steel core with flocking on the angled part.

Fit couldn't be much easier: remove or lower window, take out old part, mark new part, make one or two small cuts with tin-snips or a cutoff wheel, drill holes through the base, reinstall. It would only be easier if you had a direct OE replacement strip, but good luck finding those for t-top cars.

I think it looks just fine, but that's me. Some people may not like the chrome part. I think JC Whitney carries a similar part without the chrome though. It isn't an exact replacement part, so it is a little different. The angled part of the strip starts much lower than the stock piece, below the door line instead of right at it. BUT, if you're on a budget, don't need an EXACT replacement, and don't want your doors to rot out, these work great.

My only question is, since the rubber starts below the door top, doesnt that trap water?

I've never seen a t-top Daytona in a JY. I've never seen a Daytona in a JY with window scrapers in good condition. And I've certainly never seen a t-top Daytona in a JY with window scrapers in good condition. We have three Pull-a-Parts (pullapart.com) here in the Atlanta area, they have relatively high turnover, and I go regularly.

T-top and non t-top cars have different strips. non t-top car strips are about 4" too short.

Maybe, but where does it have to go? It can't get in to the door very easily. Not a whole lot of water is going to get stored in that little crevice anyway. Once you get the car up over 5mph I imagine it will dry itself right out. Might be a problem with snow, but I don't plan on driving in that stuff.

Haven't actually had the car on the road yet, so we'll see.

It just looks to be a gutter for rain to drain into the door..
My CS is here and it REALLY needs new scrapers and I will be going with these as it will match the interior chrome strip as well.

Re: Replaced window scrapers on my C/S today

I've been meaning to update this for a bit.

The felt does start below the top of the door. But, there are many cars out there where this is the case (go look at a Dodge minivan). Yeah, these Daytonas didn't start life like that but just because water gets in the door is not the end of the earth. There are drains at the bottom.

No door is 100% water tight. Even when these were new water would still get in around the ends of the scraper where it joined up with the glass channel.

Re: Replaced window scrapers on my C/S today

i did mine a few weeks ago (non t-top) but still about the same just couldn't figure out how to get the glass out because of the top support and i ended up dropping it behind where you attach it and made it about 10 times harder but it did go down enough to install the scrapper so i did then i had to get the glass back on the track witch took a good amount of time to somehow slip it up onto it but it wasent all that bad to do and ended up great
