    quick spool flange

I wonder if this would aid in spooling a Holset on an 8 valve set up. That might be interesting

Hmm, works for me. Only one pick the other is the link to the thread on 4btswaps.

I think Tonny was talking about using this at some point.

And it seems you have to log in to view the thread (I joined a while back looking at swaps).

According to the poster on 4btswaps:

"And yes we are looking at the wastegate actuators and making a braket to mount them to the side of the flange. The shaft travel from open to close is less than a quarter of a turn. As soon as I get the bracket done and get one of the actuators ordered and mounted I will put pics up.
I just wanted to offer it the way it was to keep the cost down for everybody and let them decide weather they wanted to do a vacuum activated system or electrical (say on a RPM switch). I have looked everywhere and those actuators are about $50 off of Ebay. The bracket and extra machining won't be but an extra $10 bucks or so.
If you all have any feedback or ideas to improve this product let me know. I don't know everything, but willing to listen and learn."

Price is $150 for the flange

    Re: quick spool flange

Other than creating a bottleneck, I don't see how it helps on our turbos.

Now if somebody is using T4 turbo with twin scroll, that would fun to test.

Interesting, it could work and on the other hand, it could make things worse.

I don't see how placing a door in the exhaust helps spool up.

    Re: quick spool flange

With a dual scroll directing all the flow to one side will help initial spool when not using a proper header.

    Re: quick spool flange

Yeah, requires a twin scroll turbo and a non twin scroll exhaust.

Premade devices with actuator etc cost 600 bucks, and I also know someone who modifies the turbo instead of creating a flange or a "stacker"

I sorta hate this because it cant be used on a true twin scroll manifold.
Ive heard you can spool a big turbo 800 rpms sooner.

    Re: quick spool flange

This is the one that is built into your turbine housing made by a 3000gt guy.
    Spooled a gt4202 700 rpms faster on a 6g72
    http://www.3si.org/forum/f4/turbo-sp...ricing-441186/

Here is one from Sound Performance (supra guys)
Also notice, the spool gains are not as extreme?
I dont think i would waste my time for these gains. Though there is a big torque increase in the lower rpms, its really only spooling 300rpm sooner to full boost, if that.
That is the same increase you get with a ball bearing turbo.
I wonder if a true twin scroll manifold gives similar results.

Now, combining a ball bearing turbo and a twin scroll valve might give serious results and allow you to use a turbo you didnt think possible on your high RPM limitations.

    Re: quick spool flange

That dyno plot looks like they are just using too big of a turbo to me. Without the mod they have peak torque only in 200RPM range and a 400-500 RPM range with the mod?

    That sucks big time!!!

Nothing quite like showing the worst case scenario!

One of the original graphs I saw, the two lines did eventually line back up after the turbo got spooled, but like you said, that graph is whack

No kidding, as soon as they make full boost, you have to shift,

For that kind of money, just buy the right turbo. Its on sale for $500, regular $749, or buy a smaller turbo to feed the bigger turbo,

    Re: quick spool flange

You guys are missing the fact that those cars all rev to 8000 or 9000 rpms.

They dont care what happeens after full boost for selling the product.
So telling them to buy the right turbo.....

Did you guys honestly think someone with a 2jz or 6g72 dohc shifts at 5500 rpms with thousands of dollars into the motor? they dont even shift there stock!

I dont really like these devices cause I dont know that they are any better then a real twin spool, and IMO, that butterfly even when open, is a restriction.

I was wondering if someone would notice the pull stopped at 5.5-6K.
