The fill plug is on the driver side of the trans. Looking through the driver side wheel well, there's a plastic splash guard in front of the trans end cover. pull that off and you'll see a rubber plug. Use a flexible funnel and fill the transmission with 5w-30 until it runs out the fill plug, remove funnel, replace plug and you're done.

I think from EMPTY it should take a hare over 2 qts.

If you have the car on jackstands or the front otherwise 'up' it will hold a bunch more, like a 1/2 quart. That *seems*like a good idea until it starts leaking out the top vent Bottom line, try to have the car as level as possible...

Or have it jack it up at an angle so its easier to pour the oil in, overfill, IE put 3 litres of oil in than level out and let the excess drain out.

Re: where to put oil in manual trans

funnels are for sissies (mine are all dirty and lost lol)

i always used one of the caps off a gear oil bottle and cut the tip off just about the plastic lip cuz that lip thats there to hold the cap on holds a hose on real nice... then id just screw it onto which ever oil bottle i was using

i dont think it works on redline bottles tho

edit: also takes up less space in my "insurance box"

It's alot easier to remove the reverse light switch on top of the trans and fill it till oil comes out the side plug. Also you can add more than 2.5 qts with the plug not removed. I'm really surprised no one does it this way.

I was just going to suggest that. The first time I filled it, I used a syringe and squirted it in the hole on the side. Now I unscrew the reverse switch and pull out the plug. Don't need to pull the wheel or anything.

I believe the actual fluid amount is like 1.8 quarts, I put in 2 and let that 0.2 leak out. My side plugs were never tight enough to allow over-filling on any of my trans.

I always have a hoist so never thought of any other way to do it, but good idea.

I do something similiar when doing trans or clutch jobs on RWD's, if I have to take the shifter plate off, I refill the trans thru that hole when its back together.

Re: where to put oil in manual trans

oh yea and a tip.... if your trans is warm to the touch at all... aka not ice cold you are gunna want to pop the top of the plug first to let the built up pressure escape so that your juice doesnt spray you in the face... i always just twist my plug around till the tab on there is up and down and grab the tab on the top and kinda hinge it down towards the ground and it works out good

or is my trans not sposed to build pressure ?

What happened to the little vent on top of your trans Near the shift rail cover, has like a little metal 'hat' on it that flops around.

GREAT IDEA BUTCH! Reverse light switch is the way I'll do it from now on Always hated having to use a transfer pump to get the fluid up to the side hole...
