    car wont start

so i have been trying to start the daytona for the first time since the rebiuld I had problems with the electrical and starter. I fixed those problems now the car cranks but wont start. I pulled the fuel line to make sure it was getting gas and i got shot in the face it burns lol. I forgot i now have a fuel injected car i wont make that mistake twice. My ? is what do i start testing now? I was going to check if i have spark but dont know how to do it by myself (wifes gone for the day). any help would be great i am hopeing to get the car started today.

You need to see if it has spark and that the fuel injectors are pulsing. Do you have any codes?

only codes are 61 and 55 how do i see if the injectors are pulsing. I tried to test the coil i put the red lead on the + terminal and grounded the black lead, turned the key on and got .018 I thought it would be 12v but i dont know if that is a correct way to test it.

If you jumped the coil in the proper way and didn't get anything the fuel pump is dead, or there is a bad wire going to it. Pull the connector off the pump, jump it again and test for voltage at the connector. If there is no voltage, it is the wiring, if there is voltage it is the pump.

the pump is working because the fuel lines are pressurized and when i pulled it i got sprayed with gasoline. I just connected a wire from the + battery terminal to the + coil terminal that gave 12v at coil but when i turned it over still nothing.

Do you hear the fuel pump running when you jump the coil? If not then you are in the situation I had described in my previous post.

If you are not getting any spark it could be the coil, or the HEP, or the wiring to either, perhaps the computer too.

If you pull the -bat terminal to reset the codes and then crank the engine, you will get a code 11 if the HEP is bad or the computer is just not seeing a signal. You must reset the codes first though since the code is for the computer having never seen a HEP signal before.

    Re: car wont start

I don't know what the 61 is, but all the others wouldn't stop the car from running.

The HEP should not be the issue. I might be thinking ASD relay now if the pump won't prime by just turning the key forward.

If you have spark, Have you checked the cam timing? Have you tried rotating the dist a little counter clockwise to make sure that there is enough timing to get it to run if you have spark?

    Re: car wont start

No i don't have spark here is what i found for code meanings.
41* Alternator field control circuit open or shorted
35 Cooling fan relay circuit open or shorted
36 (turbo) Wastegate control circuit open or shorted
61 "Baro" sensor open or shorted
Thats allot of codes I have checked timing and it is Right i will go out and move the distributor cap some and see if anything changes. where is the ASD relay its not in my under hood fuse box.

    Re: car wont start

I'm assuming that the car in question is a 90 daytona correct? Did you remember to install the rotor in the cap? it may sound stupid but I've seen people forget it. How did you test for spark? What all was involved in the rebuild? I would be leaning toward the HEP being bad. Check that the connectors are plugged in and that none of the wiring is damaged. I've had them go bad without getting a code.

I am not positive if it matters but did you swap the whole distributor? Does one of the 4 metal vanes have a square hole in the middle?

No square hole in the vanes. assuming the vanes are the metal tabs in the bottom of the distributor.

You will need to get a turbo distributor then. They have a hole in one of the vanes. A turbo car won't run with the TBI dist. A buddy of mine had that same problem a few years ago and spent weeks trying to figure it out.
