    Holset on an 8v

My question is there any holset that would be good for an 8v set up? Also is anybody running a holset on their 8v? How long does it take to spool up?

I do !... Holset HY35 at 3000rpms it spools harder than any T3T4 ... its too laggy for a stock car, I have ported all the manifolds and the head, besides I have MS and I have almost 30deg before 3000rpms

You have almost 30 deg timing before 3k rpms?

Which head do you run? What altitude are you at down there?

Yes... just before the turbo starts, once the turbo is blowing pressure I pull back the timing to 20deg at max... 15 to 20 deg.

Thanks. That's just about 5100ft. above sea level. Does anyone know how that effects timing? I have read that the higher elevations allow for much more boost, but that it might come on sooner.

Not a good match, they are just too big unless you have some seriously ported hardware.

Higher elevation equals less oxgyen so you should be able to run more boost and you will have to to get the same power at sea level.

i have one on my 8v.. not good for a street car, but my high stall tc loves it, and it takes off like a rocket.

I also have fully ported head, intake, tbi header, t2 cam and a built block i might add

1 degree more timing per 1000' is a general rule of thumb

Full spool 37 psi @ 4200rpm. Having said that, this is the first turbo I've ran where I realized spool doesn't matter anymore. This thing makes so much power on the way up it will outrun a well tuned 46 trim even at 20 psi! Best turbo I've run on the car....so far.

Thanks. Given that rule of thumb, the 30* number given earlier in the thread is about what the MP cal would be at near sea level which I am pretty close to.

37psi on a HOLSET ?? Dang!! that should be a beast!

what timing you're running to hold 37psi ? pump gas?

110 octain, about 19 deg @ 37psi. My pump gas tune is 20 psi, I could go 25 on pump 94 if I really wanted to, but I would need to run DR's all the time or only have traction in 4th gear.

I'm not seeing the problem with that...

Soon I should be able to get some real seat time in the van (break in is almost over) where I can hammer on it. I think I can get the lil guy to spool in 2nd gear at ~4000, and a little bit lower in 3rd with some time.

I ran 32* from 2.5k to 7.5k and didn't pull any timing until 9# (IIRC)...

On pump, or race gas? It is interesting to see what everyone is doing timing wise.

no problems on pump until 18#

I've said this before and I'll say it again...I always push my luck, but am not stupid about it. Never had any signs on the plugs with pump under 18.

Thanks, I will take a mental note of that.
