    Painting valve cover ribs/letters??

How do you paint those raised ribs and letters on the valve cover/intake manifold without it looking like crap? Painting the whole thing my color of choice is easy, but I don't know how to paint the ribs and letters and only get paint on the top. Any ideas?

I think most people just paint the item then sand down the ribs. If you wanted something else, use a small pin striping brush.

Paint your base color first. Then use good masking tape (blue or green tape)
Tape tightly around the contours of the ribs and over the lettering.
Take a razor (x-acto) knife and cut out the area that you want your second
color on. The tedius part is cutting around the lettering, so take your time
and make sure the tape seals tight on the sides of the raised lettering to
make sure you get no runs. After you have done a fine job on your two or three tone paint scheme follow up with a high temp clear coat.
    Check it.

bah.. why bother masking and all that crap?
I just used a foam brush like you would use for wood staining.
and i used spray paint sprayed into it so it would absorb and not drip all over.

the maroonish color actually matches the interior of the car.
