    Re: Dakota Brakes?

Found some slotted rotors for $290 a pair on the 'net. The pricing was slightly different depending on if your Dak came with 14" or 15" wheels. Gotta remember, slotted rotors are an aftermarket performance part, so they aren't going to come close to original type replacement pricing. Not much out there for the 5 lug Dak. One question: are slotted rotors really necessary? OEM rotors seem to work OK for most applications. Get good pads!

I did all new brakes on my 90 Dakota Sport last year. I bought the calipers and rotors from Napa. I think on this kind of stuff Napa is a little better quality. I also have bought a lot of Raybestos stuff through RockAuto. Why would you want slotted rotors on an 87 Dakota? Does it have a V8 in it? I think the stock brakes on mine do well and I've towed with mine.

I suggested that stock brakes work just fine in most applications and a V-8 certainly was not available as a factory option in '87.

No the V8 was not a factory option but I've seen people convert the 87-90 Dakotas to V8.

    Check out R1 Concepts.

Note: The price listed is for TWO rotors.
I got their Zinc coated drilled and slotted rotors (Front and Rear) on my Ram. I love them! The price wasn't much more than the stock replacements from AutoZone or similar but the Zinc coating alone made that worth it.

The "people" that asked the original question didn't mention anything about a V-8 conversion.

    Re: Dakota Brakes?

the people that made the post also didn't say why they wanted slotted rotors. if hemi417's truck was a v8 conversion and he was drag racing it slotted rotors would make some sense. or if he was towing with it slotted rotors would make more sense. however, he didn't say why he wanted slotted rotors, so my question was geared at trying to understand why he thought they were of benefit and to give him my opinion on it, that's all.
