    Is this new Camshaft defective?

I just bought a new Mopar 88 EFI / 88 Early Turbo Roller p/n 4387850 from a online Chrysler dealer. when I opened it up the rear seal surface looks like they forgot to finish machine and polish it. Is this normal or do you guys think this is a mfg. defect.

    here is a pic.

doesnt matter the only place a seal touched the cam is on the pulley side the other side just has a cap that fits tight in the head and never touches the cam

Re: Is this new Camshaft defective?

The roller cam engines used a cap on the back side of the head, not a seal (the cap doesn't touch the cam). This cam obvioulsy wasn't machined to use a seal, but to use the cap. Just use a cap and you should be fine...

EDIT: oops, beat me to it.

Just to add, the earlier slider cam engines did use the same seal on the front and back. You couldn't use this cam with the type of setup...

Ahem, its a different seal as it turns the OTHER way, if you used the same seal on both ends, the drivers side end would leak. Sorry to nitpick,
