    Building a 904 tranny?

I am looking to build up my 904 transmission for my truck. The truck (1985 D100 shortbed 2wd)will see light hauling (96 Shelby charger) and race duty (1/4 mile fun) am building a 400hp 318 motor for it. Any suggestions on a buildup?

Well, looks like I might just have a 727 and not a 904 gotta crawl under the truck tonight. God these things are cheap to build.

For 727 building, you just CAN NOT beat the 727 handbook written by carl munroe. He takes you through the 727 rebuild step by step with good illustrated pictures.

Get a new converter, not a used dirty POS that'll pump crud into your rebuilt trans. Get a 2,200 TCI. A transgo shift kit and a part throttle kit down from a slant 6 car. That way the thing won't stick in 3rd and bog the engine. The rest is super simple, put it back together the way you take it appart. Consider extra clutch packs. $230 you get 6 clutches in 3rd and 5 in second.

    These guys are great.

#PP1. Fits 4 clutch direct drum (not #8D drum). Replace 4 clutches with 6 Red Eagle clutches and Kolene steels for a 50% increase in clutch apply area. You get 6 Red clutches #28742, 6 Kolene steels #28701K, 1 selective steel #28701K216 and 1 #8FBP special backing plate. This Power Pack is mainly for 47RE transmissions and others with 4 clutch drums. Cost $130.00

#PP4. Fits 4 clutch forward drum (not 48RE, only fits 48RE if you buy #8FRG front ring gear). Replace 4 clutches with 5 Red Eagle clutches and Kolene steels for a 25% increase in clutch apply area. You get 5 Red clutches #28742, 4 Kolene steels #28701K, 1 selective steel #28701K216 and 1 #8FBP special backing plate. Fits all 727 to 47RE transmissions. Cost $110.00

Adding this to your normal build will make a bullet proof auto shifting auto. Otherwise full manual VB.

Almost forgot, the only special tool you need is a 1/8 torque wrench, they do inch lbs
