A man has got to know his limitations.....
From my experience if you just keep the shaft and the bracket hat connects it to the engine together they all end up the same length. If you mix and match the shafts with the brackets then things get tricky...
I am almost certain that the brackets are only different due to the different bearings that are used...
The overall lengths have to be the same or the hybrid (small outer, big innner) intermediate shaft that so many (including myself) have used with a stock lbody half shaft on a large spline tranny wouldn't work...

Not really. You're only going to have a small 525 bearing bracket set up. So none of the non L bodies that are on an 87 or later is going to have the L body bearing/bracket because is won't have a 525.
I hope I explained my argument so it doesn't sound that I'm TOO argumenitive.
To be honost, I've never even taken notice to the difference between the 525's and "the rest of them" because I always use the 87+ intermediete shaft with all my L bodys if they didn't still have a 525 in it.
Hey. Whats up. Im new to this conversation. I read it from the begining and haven't gotten a complete answer to my situation. Seems like you guys may know whats going on. I have an 88 shelby z daytona that Im using as a turbo parts car for my 89 omni. I currently have the 5 lug/all wheel disc brake setup on the omni from the z. The 3 piece equal length setup fit in and worked fine with the front on jack stands but when i put it on the ground and drove it, it seemed that the shafts were to long and made a horrible grinding and appeared to be forcing the engine from side to side. So now its back to the 2 piece. My question is, is the equal length setup stronger? I was told from someone local it is. Im not entirely sure he knows for sure.
Welcome to the forum!
L-bodies like your Omni need shorter axles than all the other bodies. If you kept the trans out of the Daytona, use two '89 Omni Automotic drivers side axles, one in each side, using teh same intermediate shaft you have now.

Thanks. Any idea where I could find shifter cables for the 555?
Thee 555 is what im taking out of the daytona. The omni is automatic now and non turbo. Im in the locating parts stage.
Thanks. Are there any companies that still make these? I would rather order new if possible. I've looked but im not very good at this sort of thing.
Napa and Carquest I think.
ok. Thanks. I'll check if they list them for the 520 application but i tried them for the 555 and had no luck.
I have heard that the parts store ones suck. They would probably be much cheaper and better quality if you get them from the JY. I should also point out that you can convert the 555 to be rod shifted and make some sweet rods to boot.
Im not sure exactly what the gain or how that would be done. Forgive me im kinda new to this. I noticed omni-potent has a kit to do it but i don't fully understand it. Of course i would imagine it replaces the cables with some sort of rod but its not a strait shot so how would that be accomplished.

what about an 88 lebaron. Im looking at a post(5sp conversion parts) and it seems to be exactly what i need. Do you know if this will work?
