I have used thread files effectively. You could also carefully run a die over it.

I think the Buggered Stud tool that Sears used to sell was discontinued back in the early 80's. So many things just weren't as un-buggered, so they quit carrying that line.

    Oh, and what they said.

so is there a die that is that size that can be used?

Why not just have the stud replaced? I'm sure there is a kit that will re-thread a 12x1.5, but if you can replace it that may be the better option.

Get a thread chaser, wont' remove metal. I got my set from Snap On, under $100 and it contains a ton of sizes including our head bolt holes. Worth every penny and you'll end up using it alot,

    Edit-Sears may sell them too.

Re: Wheel stud thread size and pitch

cheap and easy: go to fastenal and get a nut that is 12mmx1.5 and cut three grooves into it. It will fail before it tears a thread off. A die will just cut the thread.

Re: Wheel stud thread size and pitch

i want to cut the thread so that i can get a nut on without it going sideways and crossthreading and stripping
