I'm wondering if the trans is basically the same. Specifically, I'm wanting to find out if a 2003 and up will still be compatible with the 2002 and older trans controllers.

basically, yes. There were running changes but as far as swapping it in and running it will work. Im pretty sure a tranny that new is not gonna have a spot for the vehicle speed sensor on the extension housing so you'll have to swap your old one. just nuts and bolts. You may have to modify the older style mount some because i think the mount pattern on top of the case changed sometime in the late 90s.
actually if you go WAY back like circa 93 the 604 had the TRS connector seperate and it had its own hole in the case so i guess if you go that far back with a newer tranny you might have issues.
Thanks, looks like I could just get the harness and control module from a 02 or so and use a newer trans with it, that's reassuring.
