    Harness end tape

I'm looking for where you can buy the proper duck-tape like (but not really sticky) tape that was used to wrap the ends of the harness's and wherever there was a breakout in the harness.

I've got the non adhesive vinyl stuff for wrapping the actual wires sourced out. but this stuff is very hard to find

its not friction tape, hockey tape/cloth tape, vinyl or duck tape. couple days ago we had an electrician at work replacing several outlets and he was using the stuff, I asked about it and he gave me a roll. but I still want to know what its called and where you can get it ? it leaves no sticky residue like the other tapes. and when compared to the original tape on the NOS harnesses I've got. its identical

    Re: Harness end tape

thats not it. thats the stuff used to bundle wires inside the plastic tubing
(and you can buy it off ebay for $1.50/roll or 72 rolls for $36)

the tape I'm looking for is used to keep the end of the tubing closed

wish I could get a good close up picture of it. its almost like duct tape but not duct tape. if that makes sense

    Re: Harness end tape

I know what you're talking about, I think. I think you can find it on the end of hte harness where it goes to the LM in the car, or around that area. Not sure if you are doing a true restore or not, but the stuff posted will do just as good of a job. The other alternative is to use shrink wrap tubing. I did that on my car in a few places and it worked out great.

    Re: Harness end tape

shrink tubing is an even better Idea. I like that

I am not really going for a true "restore" as this car is way beyond that point mileage wise and would be rather pointless as TBI cars are so negatively looked down upon when it comes to value and such. just keep her looking nice for what she is.

Not sure if you can find cheaper prices, but I have dealt with this guy, very nice and I think the prices are reasonable.

    Re: Harness end tape

That tape is electrical tape, my father worked at the phone company for 30yrs and they were not allowed to use the normal plastic electrical tape b/c it would hold moisture, they used the tape you speak of. I have purchased some before I think that Lowes or a hardware store should have it.

    Re: Harness end tape

Friction tape is slightly different than the stuff I looked up. Something about the rubber that it is impregnated with.
Simon, I tried using stick tape once, It doesn't handle the heat as well. But does last for a few years.

    Re: Harness end tape

heres some pictures of the tape I'm looking for

that gaffers tape is the other tape I'm looking for, for the inside

but all the underhood stuff uses that mystery plastic type stuff. its very thin and flexible, and no stretchy-ness like vinyl tape.

heres a new never installed factory harness with that tape used on it
