Maybe thats what failed this time?? If the ring or pinnion is tore up and the case is cracked it could be, but I'm sure you would have mentioned fluid coming out all over? Who knows.

I'll send you some info/pics later tonight.

A few neon guys have had case failures around the differential when sitting at the line. Never seen pics of where it happens.

Then the last thing to start breaking will be the pinion gear on 26" slicks and crazy power.

What 13" rims you using? Ive been wondering about 13" rims for P bodies (custom diamond rims, not junkyard stuff). I figure with the right offset they will clear the brakes.

Funny you say that. I was having a ceiling party last night (new garage)since I didn't have enough ppl show up Chris Pat and I pushed the rampage on the hoist and had a quick look without pulling anything apart though. The diff and axle seems fine. But not a hint of and engine noise change when selecting any gear. Or any abnormal noise at all. Leaves me to believe the inputshaft has snapped AGAIN!

How many input shafts is that now for you? Do you think there is something going on there, or do a lot of auto guys have IS problems? I never follow the auto scene too much.

That page only makes me like my manual trans even more. By the time you read all that you could have built a hybrid manual trans in that time. Sheesh.

Congrats on a mean machine! I got some questions about the engine internals, what did you use for pistons, head work, cams, rods?

Hey Dean, am I the only one that doesn't know what a ceiling party is? If it involves drinking and cars, it sounds like something I'd be into

You drink a sixpack and do 10 shots each then place bets on who can stay on the ladder longest while attempting to install a ceiling.

Yes the stock input is a weak link, the 904 splined 300M shaft is bullet proof and is what most switched to. But its ~$300 and you need to have the converter hub changed to 904 splines

Yeah he has a stock input shaft, that he heat treated and polished.

I gave him some further info on a revised "heat treatment" schedule that Steve Lockett posted info about(I dont think he used this on the current shaft? IIRC). Also turning the line pressure down seems to help the shafts live which he has done.

So at this point I think turning down the line pressure a tad more and using the revised heat treatment will hopefully hold up? as long as the lower line pressure doesnt cause any slipping.

Although I dont remember when the other shafts Dean has tried broke, Steve Lockett I believe said that most of his broke on the 2-3 shift

Dean I have forgotten to send you that info I said I would, So I'll get it together and email it to you

All above is about right. That was the second shaft this year and I haven't removed the trans yet cause I'm working on the new shop and am about to move the hoist in there. The ceiling in the shop(32x40) is almost done just have about a 14" strip in the peak to finish it up. I think after I get it apart I will be ordering the 300m shaft and getting a new converter to....
